So now I want to tell you the true story of what REALLY happened when I created and released the EDT System and why I made this "Video Guide To EDT"...

...and, as crazy as it sounds, why EDT literally causes FIST FIGHTS to this very day...(I'll tell you more about THAT little incident below)...

 

So...have you ever wondered WHY most training programs don’t really work? Why you never seem to get the big muscle and strength-building results you're promised?

I certainly have. And in my case, that ‘wondering’ gradually evolved into a lifetime's worth of study and ‘in the trenches’ experimentation, both on myself and hundreds of clients, over a period of many years.

The result of this fundamental dissatisfaction with the status quo is a system I call 'Escalating Density Training,' or EDT for short.


EDT is really a whole new way to look at weight training that will open your mind and bring the FUN and, most importantly, the RESULTS back into your training.

It's a way to train that SHORTENS your workout time while dramatically INCREASING the results you get from every single set and rep you do.

You'll know...

  • EXACTLY how long each session is...
  • EXACTLY what you have to do in that session to get results...
  • and EXACTLY what you need to do in your NEXT session to keep on progressing!

 

And yes, it is a VERY different type of training system. Heck, I've always figured, just because everybody is doing things a certain way doesn't necessarily mean it's the BEST way...


...Here's ANOTHER dirty little secret in the training world...the standard "3 sets of 10 reps" approach really just ISN'T that effective!

In my seminars, I would say the following things to people and gauge their reactions...

  • "Why not do 10 sets of 3 reps instead?"

  • "Training doesn't HAVE to HURT in order to be effective."

  • "In order to increase muscle mass, you either have to do MORE work in the SAME time period or the same amount work in less time."

  • "The basis of EDT is gradually challenging your muscles to do MORE work within a standard time period, literally FORCING them to grow."

  • "You don't NEED cardio in order to burn fat. EDT can be used for cardio-free fat loss training and gets you better results than 'normal' fat loss routines."


And I gotta tell you, sometimes watching people trying to digest this "paradigm-shifting" concept was kinda like watching a frog trying to swallow a whole grapefruit...

So I decided this thing needed a LOT more explanation. I wrote up an article explaining, in full detail, the concepts involved in Escalating Density Training...I wrote it up and it was published in "Testosterone" magazine.

Well, I wasn’t sure how the article would be received because EDT is so incredibly simple, I thought most people might not grasp the significance of what I was offering.

Boy was I wrong!


It was like throwing a lit match on gasoline...

That article ignited a firestorm of controversy and my e-mail inbox was almost immediately flooded with questions about my system.

...and people were literally FREAKING OUT about this new training concept...

...I got comments all the way from "you're a genius - I can't wait to try this" to "you're full of crap - there's NO WAY this will work for real people"

...I mean...some people were writing to me like I had just pushed them down a flight of stairs or something!

(and this wasn't even where the fist fights came in!)

I couldn’t have been more surprised, to be honest with you. In fact, I really didn’t think EDT would capture this type of attention, because frankly, EDT is so simple, it’s actually difficult to convey the essence of it through the written word. And even if I COULD, people tend to think that ‘simple’ means ‘simplistic.’ However, in training, ‘simple’ means ‘reliable’!

Now, EDT can be a ‘tough sell’ because it isn’t very ‘sexy’ to some people. I mean, you’ve probably seen articles that feature these really cool looking programs that are detailed beyond imagination. All that detail leads you to believe that the program MUST work because so much thought and imagination went into it.

As for me ‘been there, done that.’

Unfortunately, those programs, as cool as they seemed, didn’t do what I wanted them to do. And I’m impatient by the way—I’m not looking for a slight, barely noticeable change in my physique or performance over a 6-month period!


I’m looking for BIG changes in my physique and performance, and I don’t want to have to rely on reincarnation to get them.

All right, I don’t want to beat this thing to death, but it’s important that you understand where I’m coming from and the type of person EDT was designed for.

...it's designed for the person who is willing to stop and think about things...

...the person with an open, inquisitive mind who is ready to step back and NOT simply accept the status quo without questioning it...

...the person who wants GREAT results, who is willing to put in the work necessary to achieve those results, but who wants a RETURN on their investment of time and energy (unlike the less-than-stellar results you get with most programs)...

So what about those fist-fights
I mentioned...?

Well, that actually DID happen! And not too long ago...

I was talking about EDT at a seminar in Italy recently...seems a few people in the audience suddenly felt as if their whole way of training and thinking was being threatened by it...that the concept was so foreign that it couldn't possibly be right...and, being Italian, they weren't shy about saying so!

Well, then a few OTHER people, who really DID 'get it', proceeded to explain it to the first people...who then, of course, responded with gestures rather than words and, well...I'm sure you can picture what happened from there.

So to make a long story short, after the fight was broken up, the bleeding stopped and everybody calmed down, I laid it out for everybody in the room...


"Escalating Density Training is NOT about saying 'everything you know about training is wrong.'

It's simply a different type of framework and mindset to perform your training sessions in. It's about maximizing PERFORMANCE as the major goal, not maximizing FATIGUE. And when you increase performance, i.e. strength, the muscle growth automatically follows."

"And saying something rude about somebody else's mother won't change that fact..."


So what exactly IS EDT all about?

And how DO you target performance rather than fatigue (and pain!) in order to achieve maximum muscle and strength?

The best way to do this is by showing it to you on paper. But since you're reading this on a computer screen, I'll just have to make do as best I can... :)

(and keep in mind, these numbers aren't based on any formulas or statistics - they're just to help illustrate the great power of this 180 degree change in approach)

  • Imagine your typical weight training bodypart workout...let's say you're doing a classic set of 8 reps on the barbell bench press.

  • Because you're aiming to get 8 reps in your set, you have to use a weight that is lighter than you could press for just 1 rep.

  • So let's say you'll be using 150 lbs to do those 8 reps.


HERE'S THE KEY...


In order to get 8 reps with 150 lbs, you have to be able to generate AT LEAST 151 lbs of force on that eighth rep in order to complete it.

If you can only generate 149 lbs, that bar is going nowhere.

  • So let's say on the LAST rep, you have to generate 151 lbs of force...
  • But on the FIRST rep of your set, you'll be able to generate a LOT of force because you're not fatigued - let's say 200 lbs worth of force just to keep things simple.
  • On the SECOND rep, you've fatigued a little and maybe can only generate 193 lbs of force.
  • One the THIRD rep, it's 185 lbs of force...
  • And so on through the whole set...

As you can see on the chart, the amount of force you are physically able to generate DROPS with every single rep you perform, due to fatigue. When you complete that last rep, you can only generate just slightly more force than the weight of the bar.

Over the course your 8 rep set, you're generating an average of 174 lbs of force. This number is important because it determines how much TENSION is being placed on your muscles. Keep this in mind!

So this is the "FATIGUE" approach...

It's the "normal" way most people train and it certainly DOES work!

But now let's focus on PERFORMANCE...

Instead of doing a set of 8 reps and pushing yourself until fatigue stops you, we will instead break up those 8 reps into THREE SEPARATE SETS, taking rest periods in between. For illustration purposes, we'll stick to the same 150 lbs on the bar.

  • So your FIRST rep, you generate 200 lbs of force...same as before.
  • On your SECOND rep, you generate 193 lbs of force...again, same as before
  • THIRD rep, 185 lbs of force...

HERE'S THE KICKER...now we STOP and take a short rest.

  • When you do your FOURTH rep, since you're rested, you're able to generate ALMOST as much force as the FIRST rep you did...let's say 198 lbs of force.
  • On your FIFTH rep, you'll get 191 lbs of force.
  • On your SIXTH rep, you'll generate 183 lbs of force.

Now we take ANOTHER short rest.

  • The SEVENTH rep gives us 188 lbs of force
  • The EIGTH and final rep, you're able to generate 172 lbs of force.

So which method do YOU think is going to be more
effective for building strength and muscle mass?

Will it be the "classic" straight-through method that limits you to an average of 174 lbs of force generated by your muscles or the "performance" method that raises your average force up to 189 lbs?

You've done the EXACT SAME number of reps with the EXACT SAME WEIGHT...the difference is that you are not focusing on fatigue...you are focusing on performance...and your muscles are getting a significantly greater overload...


And, bottom line...THAT means MORE MUSCLE
and MORE STRENGTH for you!


...one other thing I always like to mention, with EDT the majority of your reps are done when you're NOT gasping for breath and doubled over with fatigue - that means you're doing BETTER QUALITY REPS with BETTER FORM - you're basically teaching your body how to train more effectively with every single rep you do!

...compare that to most programs where your performance (and rep quality) DROPS after the very first set!
